PROFESSIONAL HEAD GARDENER

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional head gardener on one of the most beautiful and inspiring private gardens in historic Kincardineshire.

These colourful gardens sit within a 2,000-acre working estate next to an historic family home which has been inhabited by the same family for centuries.

They are open to the public once a year for charity as part of Scotland’s Garden Scheme, as well as some privately-arranged group tours.

The gardens require management to a high degree of detail in order to maintain and develop the standards expected by visitors, and the owners themselves.

To find out more about the gardens please go to: https://vimeo.com/285311839 and https://scotlandsgardens.org/glenbervie-house/ or search for Glenbervie Gardens on Instagram.

The Role

The owners are seeking to employ a dynamic professional head gardener who will possess excellent horticultural knowledge and have experience of, or affinity with, historic gardens.  You must have a passion for maintaining grounds to the highest standards and have the ability to organise the work required by both yourself and the current undergardener to successfully achieve this in line with the owners’ vision.

The varied areas of practical and skilled horticulture include a traditional walled garden and glasshouses, fruit/vegetables, roses, lawns, indoor fruit, plant propagation and pest/disease/weed control.

The heated historic greenhouses hold a prominent position within the walled garden. The ornamental display includes bananas, orchids, plumbago, begonias and pelargoniums to name but a few.

It is essential that you hold an academic horticultural qualification coupled with at least four years’ relevant work experience.  In addition, PA1/PA6A certificates and a good working knowledge of propagation, IPM and indoor plant cultivation are a must.  CS30/CS31 certificates are also desirable.
